Lilly Hawkins (A Bad Day's Work by Nora McFarland) Has a Facebook Account!

Move over Riley Spatz and Stephanie Plum!

Kind-hearted and a tad bid awkward, Lilly Hawkins, a TV news photographer, finds herself trying to make the best of her self-critical, often erred ways of thinking. Lately, her job is always in jeopardy. It's not that Lilly doesn't do her job right, she always means well but sometimes, things just don't work out the way that she had hoped.

When a five alarm emergency sounds in the middle of the night (murder scene), Lilly is determined to prove to her superiors that she does have what it takes to be a superb "shooter". But, as luck would have it, Lilly gets more than she bargained for. Racing to the crime scene as fast as she can so that she can "break" the story, she knows it better be outstanding material because if not, her ninth life at the station is about to run out.

After filming what she thinks is the greatest piece of her career she is dumbfounded and crushed to find out that the video she taped disappeared. That's right! There's nothing on the camera! Or is there?

After a bad day's work, Lilly knows she better lay low. Everyone is out to get her. She will be betrayed by those she least expects and loved by those she's rather deny. The police and a notorious gang leader is hot on her heals. They all want that tape! Why you ask? The key to solving the murder lays in the crime scene itself.

Can Lilly simultaneously out-smart her pursuers and follow the clues that will lead to a killer? Or is she destined to be the next five alarm emergency in the middle of the night herself? Bad Day's Work is a debut novel by Nora McFarland. Nora, a former Bakersfield Camerawoman (just like Lilly Hawkins)who also worked for CNN has an MFA (Master of Fine Arts) from the University of Southern California's school of cinema and television.

You've got to give Nora a round of applause. She has created a potentially well sought after trilogy with lots of twists and turns(Yes, I said trilogy). The suspense keeps you on your toes, the action keeps you in your seat and the humorous tones keep you laughing out loud throughout the entire book! Lilly Hawkins is delightfully quirky with her well intentioned ways. She's her own worst enemy for sure!

Already read A Bad Day's Work?

Be sure to take this fascinating Lilly Hawkins Mystery to your next book club meeting. There's a group guide in the back of the book. Never lead a book club session before? Don't worry, there are discussion questions included to help you lead your group. There is a little bit of everything for all book overs; mystery, suspense, humor, romance - you name it!

Be sure to check out the interview in the back of the book too. She's candid about her fears of writing her first book as well as, her love for books in general. Hey, maybe she can inspire you to finally get your novel done? If she can do it, you can too!
