How to Set Up a Facebook Fan Page!

It's so simple... why aren't you doing it?

I've been asked about this so many times, and have talked about it until I was blue in the face...and yet there are those who think this is so complicated.

It's not!

In fact, it's one of the easiest, most cost-effective ways of promoting your business and I'm literally tearing my hair out getting people to try it.

My goodness people!

Yeah, okay it's that old expression you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink, right?

First off you're not a horse...but if you were I bet I could get you to do this.

What I'm talking about is so simple...even the Geico cavemen have mastered it.

It's Facebook!

I know you know it...but...why aren't you there?

Or should I say, why don't you have a fan page promoting your business?

This isn't rocket science. No degree required!

Facebook is so popular that it rivals Google in page views and traffic.

It's so simple to set-up and promote. It's really a snap! If you can tackle the ease of making toast...you can set up a Facebook fan page. But, hey maybe you don't have the time...or you think it's a major waste of time.

Then by all means have someone else set it up and monitor it for you!

"Build it and they will come!"

The quote made famous by Ray Kinsella (er, I mean Kevin Costner) in the movie Field of Dreams. It may not have much thought anymore in the real world...but in social media, if you build it...people will take notice. They will come to Facebook for reasons they can't even fathom.

Okay that last part may not be 100% accurate.

Most people join Facebook to keep in touch with long lost friends, relatives and coworkers...but once there discover they can easily communicate with their carpenter, plumber, favorite gelati store, carpet cleaner, scout troop or marketing consultant.

This is where having a fan page comes in handy. You can easily communicate your marketing message to the masses faster, easier and certainly cheaper than newsprint or radio.

Once you have your fan page set up (literally in minutes) you can start promoting your business. Yeah, it's that simple...and it's FREE!

And here's how simple it really is... (drum role, please!)

Type http://www.facebook.com into your web browser.

Under the SIGN UP (It's free and anyone can join) form, there is a link titled "Create a Page"...it's here you can set up a page for your business, band, church or favorite celebrity. Go ahead click the link...don't be scared...you are just seconds away from getting your company free exposure on social media. Click it already!

You'll be taken to another page where you can begin the whole set-up process...don't worry, it really never gets complicated...I know I've set up fan pages for multiple companies. If I can do it...I know you can too!

So, click the button that displays "Local Business" - here you can use the scroll do-hickey to figure out how to best represent your business. Sorry, carpet cleaning and restoration isn't listed, however you can use the "Home Services" category or whatever floats your boat.

Facebook requires you to check the box stating you are the official representative of the person, business, brand or product and have permission to create such a page. Facebook is just covering their butt here. Click it and off to the next page you go.

Now you will be asked if you have a Facebook account. Click "yes" if you do and "no" if you don't. If you do...great! You can link your new fan page to your account. If you don't have a Facebook account...no problem...you can create a free account just by filling in your information. Just follow the prompts and away you go!

Like I said, it's very easy to get started. Once your FREE Facebook account is active...all you really have to do is add your profile picture and some wonderful content.

Nothing beats FREE! Right? Well, Facebook is a huge way to generate FREE marketing for your business, group, organization or whatever you wish to promote.

Then once you have about 100 fans (people who want to follow you on Facebook) then you can add a vanity name. (I'll talk about that in another article!)

So what's keeping you from capitalizing on the Facebook phenomenon?

Get your Facebook fan page up today and start promoting and you'll kick yourself wondering why it took you so long to do so.
